Raoul Ascari, Chief Operating Officer of SACE SpA traces the evolution of political risk over the last decades and the main changes produced by the recent financial crisis. His perspectives are available in this latest working paper, Political Risk Insurance: An Industry in Search of a Business. Among other things, the paper argues that the current definition of political risk is limited, with its applicability to developing countries alone and the dramatic changes of what is regarded as political risk over time regarded as two of the limitations. These limitations raise questions about whether political risk is actually an insurable risk, as well as the determination of its pricing.
